This is huge. ( as in very important)
You can have a positive mindset, a negative mindset, be spiritually minded, or poverty minded. Probably we all have a mixture of several mindsets and we don’t even realize the contradictions. The secret is to understand your mindset, take full responsibility for it, and decide what kind of mindset are you going to create from now on. There are no victims when it comes to mindsets. Once we are old enough to know better, if we still think and act out of a bad mindset, it is our own problem. No one is powerless. Anyone can change if they want to change, and are willing to make it happen. God will not change you mind for you.
Romans Chapter 8 is a very important chapter, but perhaps not that easy to understand at first. _______________
8 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life [a]in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3 For what the Law could not do, [b]weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of [c]sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
_____________________________________It all comes down to a mindset.
Romans Chapter 12 goes on to give us the practical steps to create new habits and a new mind set. ________________________
12 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, [a]acceptable to God, which is your [b]spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this [c]world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may [d]prove what the will of God is, that which is good and [e]acceptable and perfect.___________________
A renewed mind builds a transformed life, one that is in alignment with God and therefore naturally receives the wisdom and power to do the will of God. It is by grace that we are changed. But it is our choice and action that allows the process to happen.
God is interested in every part of our life, not just our church attendance or tithe money. He wants our heart to be changed to be like His heart. And in the process, our mind changes to think more like He thinks. He is never afraid or stressed out. He is never greedy or bitter, or hoping to get a good deal at someone else’s expense. He is never depressed, confused, or left feeling rejected ( Though He is often rejected and He feels it, He does not stay there.)
He sees the infinite possibilities ahead everyday. He loves to laugh. He loves to play. He loves to be with His children and explore the possibilities of life and learning and creating together. He is never bored. He wants us to live like He lives. He gave us new life for a purpose. And that purpose has everything to do with becoming like Him and bringing life to others just as He has brought life to us.
Not only are there negative and positive mindsets, there are also abundance and never enough thinking as well. This has all been well documented. So my purpose is not to give information but to get to the solution. So I will review this quickly.
Here are Ten common differences between a wealth mindset and a poverty mindset, borrowed from http://www.inman.com/2015/04/14/mindset-matters-are-you-thinking-rich-or-thinking-poor/
10 keys to a rich mindset:
1. Weathy people watch with whom they spend their time. They spend their time with battery chargers, not battery drainers. With lilies, not with leeches. Poor people have poor people for friends. Rich people hang out with people who are like them or more successful, who are intellectually stimulating and have a give-and-take balance to the relationship.
2. Wealthy people pay themselves first and lead with revenue. They do not just “save whatever’s left over.” They have and use an actual business plan.
3. Wealthy people control what goes into their body and their mind.
4. Wealthy people are not just goal-setters; they’re goal achievers. They believe that what they can conceive and believe, they will achieve. Failure is not an option.
5. Wealthy people have and display low ego. They know that it is only through helping others at the highest level that their wealth and success grows.
6. Wealthy people are optimistic most of the time. Poor people are negative most of the time.
7. Wealthy people rarely complain. They avoid those who do. Poor people complain most of the time.
8. Wealthy people are virtually excuse-free. Poor people always blame others, the situation, the economy or politics.
9. Wealthy people respect money as a tool. Poor people don’t understand the function of money.
10. Wealthy people know what “causes” their income. They study their business relentlessly, polishing and modifying along the way. They are meticulous and relentless implementers.
There are many of these lists available and I find it helpful to review them from time to time to see where my mind is tracking. It is very easy to slide into a poverty – fear mentality, especially if you were born into a struggling family where that was a serious issue.
The point is: mindset matters. It will push you forward toward health, wealth and happiness or it will drag you down to discouragement, failure and poverty. It has taken me years to believe this. I have searched and tested this topic from the perspective of business, science and physics, spiritual /religious and the practical – how do I survive and learn to overcome to see what is hype and what is truth. There are so many rabbit trails. So many people teach the “get rich quick” or “once saved always saved” messages that leave us all feeling discouraged. Building a healthy mindset, works together with building a healthy physical body and a healthy lifestyle where you connect to people with respectful, loving relationships. There are NO shortcuts. The reason it can be so challenging is everything IS connected. Changing your mind, without working on physical health and relational health will not work more than a week or two.
That is why my discovery has been so exciting for me. Each piece of the puzzle we have learned moves us in the right direction. My investments in physical health, learning and study, hard work to keep the bills paid, and at home, facing the challenges of loving each other even when it was tough was not wasted.
To quote the Bible, “but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.” Sure there are all those seeds we have sown to the selfish side of life and they too grow. But ultimately we will win if we do not give up to discouragement.
Next step: let’s get down to the practical issues of changing habits, so we change our lifestyle to contain our new mindset and value system to be continually building physical, emotional, spiritual wealth daily. And I have some really exciting news coming up. There actually is a thing that happens, call it a law of nature or the grace of God, but we do attract the very thing we think about and fear or admire. So as we stop focusing on the ugly side of life, we stop attracting it to ourselves. And it will be replaced with the good we are learning to think about and some good things actually coming looking for us. I just could not believe this was true. So I tested it both ways, think ugly – ugly found me with a bunch of ugly friends. I did not enjoy that. I starter thinking joyful, thankful, hopeful, positive and to my surprise good really came and found be.
Not everything has been good. That is also a topic for another lesson. Good must be tested to grow stronger. Just as an athlete goes to the weight room knowing it will be painful, all the time believing in the increased strength he or she will have in a few weeks. Let’s do this. Examine our mindset.
Take responsibility for it. Face it to change.
Learn to form better habits around better thinking patterns.
See our determination get tested and strengthen.
And then watch for payday. It is coming. God is not mocked, what a men sows he shall reap. We let the weeds start to die and the prosperity of life begin to grow, Grow, GROW.
